I just spilled coke on my G710 and need to clean it. Happened across this video and I can't thank you enough for showing me how.
Hey man, I know this video was posted a while ago but still…. I'm looking for some keys for my G710+. Do you still have them?
I wish you showed how to remove the volume dial, I accidentally used a little too much force and the dial snapped off. It’s all one unit and the plastic was very fragile and flimsy. Be careful if anyone that does this when you’re removing that
Hey thanks so much! I believe you have inspired me to do the same as you did in the video. I’ve just bought a second hand g710 in very good shape, except needs cleaning. I do not like the color scheme of the stock keyboard and I’m considering what you did to yours. Looks awesome. What color keycaps would you recommend I add to make it pop but still look professional?
3:50 I just wanna say…this doesn't have to be a tedious job. Just go get some distilled water, and give it a bath. It still takes some time, but it's not tedious like the method you've chosen, and it's MUCH more through. I just recently put my 710+ through a bath of distilled water to clean out a sugary drink spill. And…well it SHOULDN'T have killed it, but…we'll see soon. If it doesn't though….I am missing the ". >" key, think you could send one my way if I cover handling and shipping and a few bucks for the trouble?
but if u constantly repeat it, the keyboard will break (the keycaps, the shell or even the key switches
If a ESD was to hit the brain box(on the PCB),it would cause it to fry.But since its inside the keyboard,on the backside of the PCB,y should be ok.
But note that it doesnt matter if the keyboard is "low voltage".That only makes it more sensitive to electrical issues.
Cheers.
My volume wheel stopped working. Any ideas?
WARNING!! you'll have to use push to talk because its so fucking loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where is FOKING DISASSEMBLY??? What is purpose of this irrelevant video? A big MINUS to you!
thanks for showing this. I'm currently preparing to mod my G710+ to give it some nice zealios switches.
I think the black switch that did you put it's 3 pin but the board supports 5 pin switches
For the vacuuming, even for the pc, leave the actual vacuum motor unit some distance away, and have everything grounded.
My PC case is metal so i just touch that. Haven't had a component damaged so far from just getting the big dust bunnies out.
The thing to have in mind is to not suck up anything from the mother board 😛
My ZXCV keys just broke after a coffee accident… I always wanted a RGB keyboard though
This keyboard looks cheap AF to me.
My son spilled beer on his G710+ and a bunch of the keys stopped working. I removed the PCB and keycaps from it, washed it in the dishwasher and used a blow dryer to make sure it was totally dry and it was 100% good as new after putting it all back together.
You should start modding keyboards by adding more features onto the keyboard, other than just modding the case.
Hey @tae, I know this is a bit of a long shot but I'm looking for a few of those g710+ keys… As you mentioned, a lot of people have had issues with the keys breaking apart and I am one of them… I've now got to the stage where I have no other "hardly used" keys to use in place as the CTRL keys… Would you be able to spare 2x ctrl keys, the "" key and number 1 from the inline number row? 4 Keys in total :). I'm in Brissy, Australia..
I guess the pcb traces are ruined which is why it isn't working.
Use a paint brush instead of vacuum
(SEE MY FOLLOW UP BELOW FOR MORE ON THIS AND WHY I THOUGHT THIS WAY. There is potential danger) Umm…there's absolutely nothing wrong or dangerous with using a vacuum to clean a computer. Who the hell told you that? I use a god damn leaf blower (and have for years) to clean my computers out outside. It has cause zero problems, nor would I expect it to, and an old professor of mine is who gave me the idea (who was a computer engineer) has also been doing it for years….
Hey I have gotten a razer black widow 2014 in black and I was thinking about getting some new keys. Any recommendations. I need them in a united kingdom layout
Yeah some of my keycaps also broke :c
is it possible to remove the front shell without removing the keys? I have never moded before and don't want to work about breaking the keys or something.
thank you so much i was planning on buying the logitech G710+ but didnt like the orange part because i have a black/blue setup but i didnt want the G710 because of the cherry MX blue and now i am just gonne paint the keyboard for a awsome look
Why didn't you use a can of air for the cleaning part?
Did you just not have one or you didn't think of it at the time?
could you do the same with a g105?
they even sell computer branded blowers as an renewable alternative to compressed cans. and a blower is basically a vacuum in reverse.
Do you live in Australia, because of the brand of Methylated Spirits. (We have the same brand in Australia)
Can you make a video on the Corsair strafe
Amazing well done ^^
I'm going to do the same to replace a broken switch. Thanks for the help.
Also, do you have any DIY solutions where I can somehow make the wrist rest rubberized to make it softer, that's the only gripe I have with his beautiful keyboard.
I hope you washed your hands with bleach and then lit them on fire, who the fk knows whats on that keyboard, especially the white stuff
You're kind of a pioneer on youtube with these videos i don't see anyone else doing this stuff, keep it up you're gonna blow any day now.
Looks epic also I have a blackwidow 2014 which I bought used but during shipping the shell cracked it looks okay but do you know how I can fill the crack and what I use to paint it
The discharge shouldn't be able to fry any switches nor should it fry the pcb. Should be all ok.
Nice Job man
Keep it up coz u will be on keemstar soonfor a good reason
I remember you reviewing the KXE Rapoo wireless mechanical keyboard a while ago. Did you ever do anny paintjobs or mods for that keyboard? I own one now and I'm thinking on doing something with it.
I was thinking of repainting the orange accent and getting some coloured keycaps to make it match my PC
is that some Queensland scenery I see?
