Recently Logitech has adopted Chrome for some products. The Ergo is one, while the older M570 is not.

One thing you didn't mention in your review is the feel of the scroll wheel. Is it smooth or clickety? Can it be changed like the MX Performance mouse?

What would like to know is what is point of having a wireless trackball, if the mouse itself never moves. You can keep it charging forever.

Thank you for a superb review, Camerahoarders – and thanks to all commenters for their advice.
I'm a long-time Logitech Trackman Wheel (wired, red ball) trackball user, considering one of these.

I prefer the MX Ergo for its bluetooth capability: I think the Unifying receiver is a blatant piece of Not-Invented-Here tech; there's no reason to invent a proprietary system when bluetooth works fine. The non-replaceable battery worries me though – wish they'd gone with NiMH AAA cells. The rubber coating might be a problem – I've had equipment with rubberised surfaces go sticky after many years – some rubber coatings biodegrade, it's not just that they need cleaning with soap. However, the rubber coating on my Trackman Wheel is still fine. Tilt mechanism is interesting, although there are several 3D printed tilt stands for the M570 on Thingiverse, so I could improvise. I'm still undecided.. but thank you, and I'll use your affiliate link when I make my mind up!

The recharging functionality is a negative point (for me), using a AA or AAA battery is much better, immediate replacement and when the rechargeable battery dies, the mouse must disassembled, undersold and a new one must be soldered and it must be assembled again.

I was about to return it because the trackball suddenly started feeling hard to move. After watching this video I found out the trackball is removable. After I cleaned it it felt new again. For anyone with a trackball mouse, pleade clean it every few days, it starts getting really dirty after several weeks lmao.

I have used Logitech Trackballs for years including the M570. The problem I have had is after about three years of use the ball won't turn freely. Do Logitech put a special coating on the ball that wears of in about 3 Years of use. Is there a lubricant available that I can use to free up the ball.

I am a long time heavy (really heavy) user of these trackballs. The MX Ergo is I think the 5th generation from Logitech. I have used them all, starting with the RS232 square one, then the PS2 white one with the red ball, then the grey one with the red ball, then the wireless one with the blue ball (M570) and then the MX Ergo with the silver ball.

I have to say that the M570 is THE BEST logitech trackball in my opinion, based on the following key facts:

    1. The M570 works on a penlite AA battery and can easily keep working for a whole year at HEAVY use (I use it for gaming and day job as developer). As opposed to the MX Ergo which has a built in battery and needs usb to be recharged it will need recharging about every 4-6 months.

    2. The M570 has no rubberized top, which will eventually get sort of sticky and develop a weird texture from heavy use. I have both experienced that with the grey one with the red ball (wired) AND the MX Ergo (wireless).

Overall the M570 seems a bit more sturdy since it is entirely plastic (no rubber) and it seems more future proof (no internal battery that wears out). The only drawback that I find is after heavy gaming, the mouse buttons will stop working properly. I will try to replace mine myself, which should not be a very difficult job. But also you can find the M570 for about 35 euros on aliexpress. Which is a nice deal.

For anyone trying to decide between these two: If the tilting option is no absolute must. Get the M570!

Anyone who will spend 7 days accustomed to any of these mice, will be hooked for life.
Can't figure out how come nobody understand these mice are so much better than regular ones. I have them for so many years, and I know just one other person who uses it. Always feared Logitech will quite making them.
The Ergo feels more expansive and has it's features.
The m570 is a tank. Lasts for years.
Bottom line, I can't think of a single thing a regular mouse does better than any of these.

Hi. Diagnosed with RSI. On the mouse hand its fingers but especially the top of the palm that pains. Cause was too long on PC. Usage is for hours long writing and surfing. The 570 does not hurt the thumb or any part of the hand after hours of use. My hand is slim.
Do recommend an ergo keyboard for fingers pain in both hands with lengthy use.

the idea of this mouse is great, when it works. after 4 months the first one stopped working then I got a replacement which lasted about 5 months.. so no need to spend $100 if these mice are not made to last and we don't know how to fix them.

I've been using a trackball mouse for almost 5 years now and it's one of the better decisions I've made. I will never go back to a wrist-straining classic mouse. Love my trackball!

Regarding the receiver carry slot, it's supposed to be not needed anymore because the receiver is now universal (it's called a Universal Nano Receiver). You can buy them separately, keep them in your devices' USB ports and set them up such that you connect your required devices to any of them, even setting something like the MX Master or the MX Ergo to connect to two Nano Receivers for each of their two communication channels.

do you have to replace it every year or so because of left click starts double clicking like in m570? It was breaking just after warranty 3-4times for me

I just got this today after having used the m570 for almost 10 years (yes it is still going strong, even after falling in a bucket of water (dont ask!)) – i am liking it so far but the rubbery surface takes some getting used to.. it feels too sticky and i think it may turn gummy after a while like other rubbery materials.. but so far so good (^_^)

I've been using the M570 since it released. Loved it for years. The last 3 I purchased (2012, 2013, 2018) developed problems quickly with either the left button sensor screwing up or the trackball dragging like crazy, making it impossible to game and aggravating to do anything else. I pop the ball and clean the mouse regularly. Makes no difference. The M570 is flimsy. Bought my most recent M570 6 months ago and I'm ready to take a sledgehammer to it. At some point, Logitech obviously began sourcing cheaper parts for this mouse because reliability, performance and longevity tanked. I won't buy another M570 and although the Ergo looks great, I just don't trust Logitech for trackballs anymore.

My main problems with the 570 are that the ball has little divots in it, and being wireless, occasionally has a flaky connection, so that (for example) if you're in the middle of trying to drag a file into another folder, it may spas out and act as if you let go of the button, dropping the file who knows where. I've had these problems with 2 different 570s, one at home, one at work. I've tried switching them, doesn't help, so I don't really think it's a manufacturing defect (but probably design?)

Can you clarify whether the Ergo fixes these things?

Can anyone confirm that I'm not the only one that experiences this with the 570s?
